IM Strategy in Finance: Working Group PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 24 February 2011 00:00

A working group, developing a guideline how to approach and conduct a comprehensive IM (Information Management) strategy for Financial Institutions is currently working under the guidance of Dr. Bruno Wildhaber, Competence Centre for Records Management. The goal of the working group is to develop a paper which will guide FI's through the implementation of an integrated IM strategy.  In most organizations, there is no shared or strategic understanding of how information should be managed. This guide will address the topic from a strategic management perspective, top-down, e.g. based on the company strategy and governance goals. This approach addresses IM from an integrated management point of view, incorporating existing and new initiatives.

Participating organizations are international and national FI's with  strong practices in the fields such as ECM, RM, KM, BPM and archiving. All members of the working group are long-term experts in their respective domains.

FI's who are interested to get additional information pls use our contact form.

How to deal with standards PDF Print E-mail

Are standards useful or just a nuisance? Participate in a discussion started in the AIIM ERM community.

Here are some useful hints how standards should be used in any organization

  • Always find out from where the standard originates and through which stages of development it went
  • Use them as frameworks (e.g. like Cobit) only, never apply them "as is"
  • The closer they are to technology, the more value they can deliver
  • Define the maturity level of the domain you want to use the standard for before applying the standard. The biggest deficit of a standard is it's inability to address business specific requirements -- (.. yep, this is the nature of a standard..)
  • Don't try to get a certification unless you can really identify the benefits

By the time you've gone through all this, you should know what to do!

8 Ways Information Management (IM) and IT Governance (ITG) Will Support Each Other

1 -- "IT doesn't matter."

2 -- IM will allow IT Governance to leave the conformance niche.

3 -- It's the fuel that powers the engine - it's information that creates value.

4 -- Storage cost will be one of the drivers for better IT Governance

5 -- Measure, measure, measure.

6 -- Forget “best practice," use “adapted” or “optimized” instead.

7 -- IM must be governed.

8 -- IT Governance 2.0.
